How to Buy Anthropic Stock: IPO Shares, ETFs and Pre-IPO Options
Anthropic is still private, so there is no stock to buy on an exchange yet. This guide covers every legitimate route: requesting IPO shares through a broker, buying after listing, ETFs and listed funds that hold Anthropic now, and pre-IPO platforms.
You can request IPO shares through some brokers once the price range is set, buy after listing, or get small exposure now through ETFs and listed funds.
As of 18 October 2026.

Can you buy Anthropic stock? Not on a stock exchange yet. Anthropic is a private company and has only filed confidentially for an IPO; media reports point to a Nasdaq listing in mid-to-late November 2026. Until then, you can get indirect exposure through some ETFs and listed funds, and accredited investors can buy private shares through secondary platforms.
Here are your options, from simplest to most restricted. For dates, valuation and ticker status, see our Anthropic IPO guide.
Ways to invest in Anthropic compared
| Route | When | Who can use it | Main catch |
|---|---|---|---|
| Request IPO shares via your broker | After the price range is set, before trading | Eligible account holders at participating brokers | Allocations not guaranteed, likely small |
| Buy after listing | From the first trading day | Anyone with a US brokerage account | First-day price swings |
| ETFs holding Anthropic | Now | Anyone | Anthropic is a small slice of each fund |
| Listed private-company funds (VCX, DXYZ) | Now | Anyone | Can trade far above the value of their holdings |
| Pre-IPO secondary platforms | Now | Accredited investors | High minimums, company approval needed |
| Amazon or Alphabet shares | Now | Anyone | Anthropic is a small part of their value |
1. Request Anthropic IPO shares through your broker
Large US IPOs usually set aside some shares for retail investors through selected brokers. In the SpaceX IPO in June 2026, retail investors could request shares through Robinhood’s IPO Access (a conditional offer to buy) and SoFi’s IPO center (an indication of interest). Fidelity, Charles Schwab and E*TRADE also offered conditional access with their own requirements, such as minimum account assets.
Anthropic has not said which brokers will take part or how many shares go to retail. Based on the SpaceX process, expect these steps:
- Open and fund an account at a broker that offers IPO access, before the roadshow.
- Watch for the price range, expected around the start of the roadshow (reported for the week of 9 November).
- Submit a request for the number of shares you want, often with a maximum price.
- Confirm your request after the final price is set. You may get all, some or none of the shares.
Demand for a large AI IPO is likely to be high, so many requests may be filled only partly or not at all.
2. Buy Anthropic stock after it lists
Once Anthropic starts trading, you can buy it through any US brokerage account, including Robinhood, Fidelity, Schwab, E*TRADE, SoFi or Interactive Brokers. Large IPOs usually open a few hours after the market opens on day one.
- Use a limit order. Set the highest price you will pay. Market orders on IPO day can fill far above the price you saw.
- Consider waiting. SpaceX opened at $135 in June 2026, rose 19% on day one, then slipped below its IPO price within about a month.
- Check the real ticker. Only use the symbol in Anthropic’s public S-1. Placeholder tickers on finance sites are not tradable shares.
3. Anthropic ETFs: funds that hold it now
No ETF holds mainly Anthropic yet. Several US-listed ETFs own small stakes, according to ETFdb (20 August 2026):
| ETF | Ticker | Anthropic weight (approx.) |
|---|---|---|
| Alger Concentrated Equity ETF | CNEQ | 2.5% |
| Tema Photonics & Optical ETF | LAZR | 2.3% (via an SPV) |
| KraneShares Public-Private AI & Technology ETF | AGIX | 1.9% |
| Alger AI Enablers & Adopters ETF | ALAI | 1.8% |
| Alger 35 ETF | ATFV | 1.3% |
| iShares A.I. Innovation and Tech Active ETF | BAI | 0.75% |
| T. Rowe Price Technology ETF | TTEQ | 0.75% |
| T. Rowe Price Capital Appreciation Equity ETF | TCAF | 0.65% |
With weights around 1% to 2.5%, Anthropic’s moves barely affect these funds. Check each fund’s latest holdings before buying, since weights change.
Anthropic-themed and leveraged ETFs
- ANTW (Anthropic AI Lab Ecosystem ETF): holds companies linked to Anthropic, such as cloud and data-centre firms, not Anthropic shares.
- ANTU and ANTY (ProShares): described as 2x leveraged and -2x inverse funds designed to track Anthropic stock after it lists. Leveraged single-stock ETFs reset daily and are meant for short-term trading, not long-term holding.
4. Listed funds with bigger Anthropic stakes: VCX and DXYZ
Two NYSE-listed closed-end funds hold larger private-company positions. TipRanks reported in early 2026 that Anthropic was about 20.7% of the Fundrise Innovation Fund (VCX), and that Destiny Tech100 (DXYZ) added Anthropic through a $100 million special purpose vehicle in February 2026.
The catch: these funds can trade at a large premium to their net asset value, so you may pay much more than the underlying holdings are worth. Fees are high (about 2% to 3%), and premiums can collapse quickly when hype fades. Check the current premium and holdings before you buy.
5. Buying Anthropic shares before the IPO
Secondary platforms such as Forge Global, EquityZen, Hiive and Nasdaq Private Market match buyers with employees and early investors who want to sell private shares. In practice:
- You must be an accredited investor. Under SEC rules, that generally means income above $200,000 ($300,000 with a spouse) in each of the last two years, net worth above $1 million excluding your home, or certain securities licences.
- Company approval is required. Forge notes that transfers without company approval can be void, and many requests are never approved.
- Minimums are high and prices are indicative. Nasdaq Private Market showed $82.86 per share on 1 October 2026; Forge has listed different figures. Prices also vary with share class and fund structure.
Beware of anyone offering “Anthropic pre-IPO shares” through social media, messaging apps or crypto tokens. Tokens named after Anthropic are not shares and give you no ownership.
6. Indirect exposure: Amazon and Alphabet
Amazon and Google are major Anthropic investors and cloud partners; the prospectus reportedly lists compute commitments of $110 billion to Amazon and at least $111.1 billion to Google. Their shares give some exposure to Anthropic’s success, but Anthropic is a small part of each company’s value.
Buying from outside the US
Investors outside the US can usually buy after listing through a broker that offers US stocks. Indian residents use the RBI’s Liberalised Remittance Scheme (LRS); see the India section of our Anthropic IPO guide for limits, TCS and tax.
Before you buy: a quick checklist
- Read the risk factors and audited numbers in the public S-1 (see our prospectus summary).
- Decide how much of your portfolio a single new stock should be.
- Know the real ticker, the final IPO price and your broker’s order rules.
- Check lock-up expiry dates, when insiders can start selling.
- For funds, check the current Anthropic weight, fees and premium to NAV.
