The Jio Platforms IPO opens on 21 October and closes on 23 October 2026. Besides the usual retail, HNI and institutional categories, it sets aside up to ₹2,500 crore for shareholders of Reliance Industries (RIL), Jio’s parent. If you held even one RIL share on 14 October 2026, you can bid in this separate pool, and you can still place a second bid in the retail or HNI category from the same PAN. Who is eligible for the Jio Platforms IPO shareholder quota?
You qualify if, on 14 October 2026, you held at least one Reliance Industries equity share as an individual or a Hindu Undivided Family (HUF) (Confirmed). Companies, trusts and institutional investors cannot use this quota.
- Demat holding. Brokers report that the RIL shares must be in demat form, in the account linked to the PAN you bid with (Reported). If you still hold paper certificates, check the shareholder reservation section of the RHP or ask the registrar, KFin Technologies, before bidding.
- Joint accounts. The first holder’s PAN is normally the one checked. Bid from the first holder’s PAN.
- Only RIL shares count. Holdings in other Reliance group companies, RIL futures or mutual funds that own RIL do not make you eligible.
What is the record date, and can you still buy RIL shares to qualify?
The record date is 14 October 2026, the day Jio Platforms filed its RHP (Confirmed). Under T+1 settlement, shares bought on 13 October were the last to reach demat accounts by that date (Reported, Business Today). Buying RIL shares now will not make you eligible for this IPO’s shareholder quota.
Can you apply in both the retail quota and the RIL shareholder quota? The PAN rule
Yes. The RHP allows an eligible RIL shareholder to make two applications from the same PAN without either being rejected as a multiple bid (Confirmed, as reported by Upstox and INDmoney):
- Application 1: RIL shareholder category, up to ₹2 lakh.
- Application 2: the net offer, either retail (up to ₹2 lakh) or non-institutional / HNI (above ₹2 lakh).
The rule is one application per category per PAN. What gets rejected:
- Two bids in the same category from one PAN, even through different brokers or banks. The exchanges match bids by PAN, so both can be treated as multiple applications.
- A retail bid and an HNI bid from the same PAN. Application 2 is one or the other, not both.
- A shareholder-category bid from a PAN that did not hold RIL shares on 14 October.
- A shareholder-category bid above ₹2 lakh.
Use a bank account in your own name for the UPI mandate or ASBA block. Payment from someone else’s account is a common reason for technical rejection.
Lot size and investment amount: retail vs shareholder vs sHNI vs bHNI
One lot is 12 shares. At the upper band of ₹1,119 that is ₹13,428 per lot; if you bid at the cut-off price, your bank blocks the amount at the upper band.
| Category | Bid range | Minimum (lots / shares / ₹) | Maximum (lots / shares / ₹) | Category size, approx. |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Retail (RII) | Up to ₹2 lakh | 1 / 12 / ₹13,428 | 14 / 168 / ₹1,87,992 | ₹9,525 Cr, about 71 lakh minimum lots |
| RIL shareholder quota | Up to ₹2 lakh | 1 / 12 / ₹13,428 | 14 / 168 / ₹1,87,992 | ₹2,500 Cr, about 18.6 lakh minimum lots |
| Small HNI (sNII) | ₹2 lakh to ₹10 lakh | 15 / 180 / ₹2,01,420 | 74 / 888 / ₹9,93,672 | ₹1,361 Cr, about 67,500 minimum applications |
| Big HNI (bNII) | Above ₹10 lakh | 75 / 900 / ₹10,07,100 | Up to the bNII category size | ₹2,721 Cr, about 27,000 minimum applications |
Calculated at the upper band of ₹1,119 on the confirmed lot size. Category sizes assume the net offer of about ₹27,213 crore (₹30,213 crore less the shareholder and ₹500 crore employee reservations) split 35% retail and 15% NII, with NII divided one-third sNII and two-thirds bNII. At the lower band (₹1,065, ₹12,780 a lot), a fixed-price retail or shareholder bid can fit 15 lots (₹1,91,700); cut-off bids are capped at 14.

How to apply in the RIL shareholder category
- From 21 October, open the IPO section of your broker app or your bank’s ASBA page.
- Select Jio Platforms and choose investor type Shareholder (some apps say “RIL Shareholder” or “SHA”).
- Enter 1 to 14 lots and tick cut-off price to bid at the final price.
- Approve the UPI mandate by 5 pm on 23 October, or confirm the ASBA block. The money stays in your account until allotment on 26 October.
- For a second chance, place a separate bid under Individual / Retail (or HNI) from the same PAN.
If the shareholder option does not appear, the usual reason is that the PAN on that demat account did not hold RIL shares on 14 October.
Does the shareholder quota improve your allotment chances?
It gives you a second, separate pool, so an eligible RIL holder who also bids in retail has two independent draws. It does not guarantee shares. When an individual category is oversubscribed, SEBI rules give the minimum lot of 12 shares by lottery to as many applicants as possible, so a 14-lot bid usually has the same odds as a one-lot bid. The shareholder pool holds about 18.6 lakh minimum lots; if more eligible holders apply, not all will get one. RIL has several million shareholders, so the turnout, not the bid size, will decide your odds.
We will add day-wise subscription for the shareholder category to the Jio Platforms IPO page from 21 October.
