IPO progress
Dates after 1 June are media reports. We update this page the day the public S-1 appears on SEC EDGAR.

Is Anthropic public? Not yet. As of 21 October 2026, Anthropic, the maker of Claude, is a private company with no stock ticker. It confidentially filed a draft S-1 with the SEC on 1 June 2026 (confirmed). Media reports point to a Nasdaq listing in mid-to-late November 2026, after the 3 November midterm elections, at a valuation of $1.5 trillion to $2 trillion (reported). No date, ticker or price range has been announced.
Anthropic’s IPO could be the largest stock market debut ever. It would also be the first time ordinary investors, including those in India, can own a piece of a frontier AI lab directly. Until now, Anthropic shares have only changed hands privately among big funds, employees and accredited investors.
This guide separates what is confirmed (stated by Anthropic or in an SEC filing), what is reported (from named media, citing unnamed people) and what is an estimate. It covers the expected IPO date, the stock ticker confusion, what the leaked prospectus reportedly shows, valuation, and how to buy Anthropic stock in the US or from India.
Latest update, 23 October 2026: the public S-1 is still not on SEC EDGAR, but Yahoo Finance reported on 21 October, citing three people familiar with the plans, that Anthropic could file it publicly as soon as Friday, 23 October (reported; Anthropic did not comment). The Wall Street Journal, which reviewed an updated draft prospectus, reported revenue of $16.3 billion for the first half of 2026 and an $80.7 billion net loss, about $72 billion of it non-cash (reported). Reuters reported that investors have discussed a valuation of about $1.5 trillion, below the roughly $2 trillion talked about earlier. We update this page the day the public S-1 appears on SEC EDGAR.
Is Anthropic publicly traded?
No. As of 21 October 2026, Anthropic is a private company and its shares do not trade on any stock exchange. You cannot buy Anthropic stock on Nasdaq, NYSE, NSE or BSE today.
What you may see online are three things that look like a share price but are not:
- Private-market prices. Platforms such as Forge Global and Nasdaq Private Market publish indicative prices from secondary trades between accredited investors. Nasdaq Private Market showed $82.86 per share on 1 October 2026. These trades are thin, restricted and not open to most retail investors.
- Placeholder quote pages. Several finance sites show Anthropic pages with made-up symbols. See the ticker section below.
- Crypto “pre-stock” tokens. Some crypto sites list tokens named after Anthropic. They are not Anthropic shares, give no ownership and are not backed by the company. Avoid them.
Anthropic share price today
There is no official Anthropic share price until the IPO prices. The first real price will be the IPO offer price, set by Anthropic and its banks the night before listing. The first market price will come when trading opens on listing day. We will add the live price here once the stock lists.
Is there a Claude AI stock?
No separate Claude stock exists. Claude is a product of Anthropic, so once Anthropic lists, buying Anthropic shares is how you invest in Claude. Amazon and Alphabet are large Anthropic investors, so their shares give indirect exposure today, but Anthropic is a small part of their total value.
Anthropic stock ticker symbol
Anthropic has not announced a ticker. The official symbol will appear in its public S-1 and in Nasdaq’s listing notice. Until then, every “Anthropic ticker” you see is a placeholder. These are the ones showing in Google US results on 18 October 2026:
| Symbol | Where you see it | What it really is |
|---|---|---|
| ANTH.PVT | Yahoo Finance | Private-company placeholder page |
| ANTHZZX | Yahoo Finance | “Company level” private-market quote |
| ANTHR.FG | CNBC | Forge private-market price index |
| ANTHRO | Seeking Alpha | The site’s own placeholder |
| ANTP | Investing.com | The site’s own placeholder |
| ANTH | ProShares fund page | Used to describe planned ETFs; not confirmed by Anthropic |
| ANTHROPIC | TradingView, crypto exchanges | Upcoming-IPO page or a tokenized “pre-stock”, not shares |
Don’t place orders or buy tokens based on these symbols. We will add the real ticker here as soon as it is filed.
Anthropic IPO date: when will Anthropic go public?
The most likely window is mid-to-late November 2026, based on media reports. Anthropic has not announced a date. Bloomberg reported that marketing could begin the week of 9 November with trading before the US Thanksgiving holiday on 26 November, and Reuters reported the offering will likely come after the 3 November midterm elections. Both said plans could change.

Why the public S-1 date matters
US rules require a company that filed confidentially to make its S-1 public at least 15 days before the roadshow starts. So if the roadshow begins on 9 November, the S-1 should appear on SEC EDGAR by about 25 October. If it has not appeared by then, expect the listing to slip. The public S-1 will also reveal the ticker, share structure, audited financials and risk factors for the first time.
Could the Anthropic IPO be delayed?
Yes. Three things could push it back:
- Market conditions. Large IPOs often wait when markets fall. SpaceX’s shares slipped below their IPO price within about a month of its June listing, which may make investors more price-sensitive.
- Valuation gap. Reuters reported on 15 October that some investors now see about $1.5 trillion rather than $2 trillion, after quarterly growth slowed from roughly doubling to 45%.
- Pressure on safety. In a letter dated 14 October, New York City Comptroller Mark Levine asked CEO Dario Amodei to postpone the IPO until stronger AI-safety controls are disclosed. Bloomberg reported on 16 October that Anthropic had opened talks with his office.
Prediction markets such as Polymarket and Kalshi also trade on the Anthropic IPO date. Treat their odds as crowd sentiment, not information.
Anthropic IPO price, valuation and issue size
Anthropic has not announced a price band. Any per-share “IPO price prediction” you see today is a guess, because the number of shares on offer is not public yet. What we do know is the valuation range being discussed.
- Last confirmed private valuation: $965 billion, from the $65 billion Series H in May 2026. That was more than double the $380 billion Series G in February 2026.
- IPO valuation talk: about $2 trillion, according to IFR and Bloomberg. Reuters reported on 15 October that some investors are now discussing about $1.5 trillion. Anthropic itself has published no target.
- One investor’s forecast: an early backer told Fortune he expects pricing near $1.8 trillion and a first-day market value of $2.3 trillion to $2.4 trillion. This is an opinion, not a forecast to rely on.
For scale, SpaceX listed in June 2026 at about $1.77 trillion and closed its first day near $2.1 trillion. An Anthropic IPO at $2 trillion would rank among the largest listings in history.
How much will Anthropic raise?
Reports put the raise at $75 billion to $100 billion. IFR reported a target of up to $100 billion on 15 October. At that size, it would be the biggest IPO ever by money raised.
Exchange, ticker and banks
- Exchange: Nasdaq, according to a Business Insider report in September 2026. Not yet confirmed by Anthropic.
- Ticker symbol: not announced. See the ticker section above.
- Banks: Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley are reported as joint bookrunners, leading a large syndicate. JPMorgan and Citi have also been named in reports.
Is there a retail quota or GMP?
US IPOs do not have a fixed retail quota like Indian IPOs, and there is no official grey market premium (GMP) for US listings (see what is GMP). SpaceX reportedly allocated about 30% of its shares to retail investors through US brokers. Anthropic has not said how it will allocate shares. Indian residents generally cannot apply in a US IPO and can only buy once the stock starts trading.
Anthropic’s business and financials
Anthropic is growing very fast, but full audited numbers will only be public when the S-1 is filed. Figures below come from what Anthropic told investors, as reported by the media.
Anthropic was founded in 2021 by former OpenAI researchers, including CEO Dario Amodei and President Daniela Amodei. It is a public benefit corporation (PBC), which means its charter requires it to weigh public benefit, in its case AI safety, alongside profit. Its main products are Claude (the AI assistant), Claude Code (an AI coding agent) and the Claude API, which businesses use to build Claude into their own products. Roughly 80% of revenue reportedly comes from business customers. Amazon and Google are major investors and cloud partners.
| Quarter (2026) | Revenue | Growth vs prior quarter | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Q3 (Jul to Sep) | $16.8B | +45% | Reported |
| Q2 (Apr to Jun) | $11.6B | More than doubled | Reported |

At the Q3 pace, Anthropic’s revenue run-rate is about $67 billion a year (our calculation: $16.8B x 4). At a $2 trillion valuation, investors would be paying roughly 30 times that run-rate, which only makes sense if very fast growth continues.
Anthropic IPO prospectus: what Reuters reported
Anthropic’s S-1 is still confidential. On 28 September 2026, Reuters reported figures from a copy of the prospectus it had seen; Anthropic declined to comment. Treat these as reported until the public filing confirms them.
| Item | Reported figure |
|---|---|
| H1 2026 revenue (six months to 30 June) | $16.3 billion, up from $1.1 billion a year earlier (WSJ, 20 October 2026, from an updated draft) |
| H1 2026 net loss | $80.7 billion, of which about $72 billion was non-cash charges on financing instruments (WSJ) |
| 2025 revenue | Nearly $4.6 billion, about 12 times 2024 |
| 2025 net loss | About $42 billion, of which about $34 billion was a non-cash charge tied to financing that can convert into shares |
| 2025 operating loss | More than $8 billion, excluding writedowns |
| 2025 compute and infrastructure | $7.33 billion of $12.65 billion total operating expenses |
| Cash and short-term investments | $20.28 billion at 31 December 2025 |
| Compute commitments | At least $518 billion over about 10 years, with Google, Amazon, Microsoft, Broadcom-related leases and others |
| Customer concentration | Two customers made up nearly a quarter of 2025 revenue |
Two points matter most for investors. Revenue is growing very fast, but so are long-term spending commitments. And a few large customers drive a big share of sales. The public S-1 will add audited statements, share classes and the use of IPO proceeds. See our full Anthropic IPO prospectus breakdown for compute commitments, risk factors and share classes.
Anthropic is a public benefit corporation. Its board must balance shareholder returns with its safety mission, and a Long-Term Benefit Trust can elect some board members, so public shareholders may have less control than at a typical company.
How to buy Anthropic stock in the US
You can’t buy Anthropic stock on a public exchange until it lists. There are three routes, depending on timing; our step-by-step guide to buying Anthropic stock covers each in more detail.
1. Request IPO shares through your broker
Some US brokers let eligible customers request shares at the IPO price before trading starts, for example Robinhood’s IPO Access, SoFi’s IPO investing or Fidelity’s new-issue offerings. Demand for a large AI IPO will likely exceed supply, so allocations may be small or zero. Check your broker’s eligibility rules once the price range is set.
2. Buy after listing
Once Anthropic starts trading, any US brokerage account can buy it. First-day prices can swing widely, so many investors use limit orders rather than market orders.
3. Get exposure now through ETFs and funds
At least eight US-listed ETFs, including CNEQ, AGIX, ALAI and BAI, hold small Anthropic stakes of roughly 0.65% to 2.5%, according to ETFdb. Listed funds such as VCX and DXYZ hold bigger positions but can trade at large premiums. Our guide on how to buy Anthropic stock lists each fund, its weight and the risks.
Can you buy Anthropic stock before the IPO?
Only in limited ways. Platforms such as Forge Global, EquityZen and Nasdaq Private Market arrange trades in private Anthropic shares, but they are generally limited to accredited investors, have high minimums and need company approval for transfers. Be wary of anyone selling “Anthropic pre-IPO shares” or tokens on social media.
Buying Anthropic shares from India
Indian residents can buy Anthropic shares after listing through a US-stock investing platform, funded under the RBI’s Liberalised Remittance Scheme (LRS). You cannot buy them on NSE or BSE or apply in the US IPO. LRS allows up to $250,000 per financial year, and US brokers will ask for PAN, Aadhaar and a W-8BEN form. Buying unlisted foreign shares before the IPO falls under RBI’s stricter overseas investment rules.
LRS and TCS: what it costs to send money
Tax collected at source (TCS) applies when your total LRS remittances in a financial year cross ₹10 lakh. The rate on the amount above ₹10 lakh is 20% for investments, unchanged by Budget 2026. TCS is not an extra tax: you can adjust it against your income tax or claim it back as a refund when you file your return. The threshold counts all your LRS remittances in the year, including travel and gifts.
| Amount sent in FY 2026-27 | TCS collected | Why |
|---|---|---|
| ₹5 lakh | ₹0 | Below ₹10 lakh threshold |
| ₹10 lakh | ₹0 | At threshold |
| ₹15 lakh | ₹1 lakh | 20% of ₹5 lakh above threshold |
| ₹25 lakh | ₹3 lakh | 20% of ₹15 lakh above threshold |
Tax for Indian investors
Gains on US shares are taxed in India, not in the US, for Indian residents. The rules depend on how long you hold the shares.
| Item | Rule for resident Indians (FY 2026-27) |
|---|---|
| Long-term capital gains | Held more than 24 months: 12.5% plus surcharge and cess, no indexation |
| Short-term capital gains | Held 24 months or less: added to income, taxed at your slab rate |
| Dividends | 25% withheld in the US (with W-8BEN); taxed in India at your slab rate, with credit for US tax via Form 67 |
| Currency conversion | Gains computed using the SBI TT buying rate as per tax rules |
| Reporting | Schedule FA (foreign assets, calendar-year basis) and Schedule FSI in ITR-2 or ITR-3 |
| US estate tax | Can apply to US shares above $60,000 held by non-US persons at death |
- Report even with no sale. If you hold Anthropic shares at any time in the calendar year, you must list them in Schedule FA. Missing it can attract penalties under the Black Money Act.
- File Form 67 before your ITR to claim credit for US tax withheld on dividends. Anthropic has not said it will pay dividends; most fast-growing tech companies do not.
- Short-term flipping is costly. Selling within 24 months means slab-rate tax, which can be up to about 39% for top earners including surcharge and cess.

Should you buy the Anthropic IPO? Risks to weigh
Anthropic is one of the fastest-growing companies ever, but a high valuation leaves little room for error.
- Valuation risk. At $1.5 trillion to $2 trillion, the price assumes years of very fast growth. Growth has already slowed from doubling each quarter to 45% in Q3.
- Heavy costs. Frontier AI needs huge spending on chips and data centres. Profits may take years.
- Competition. OpenAI, Google, Meta, xAI and open-source models compete on price and quality, and AI model prices have fallen fast.
- Governance. As a public benefit corporation with a Long-Term Benefit Trust, Anthropic may put safety ahead of short-term returns.
- Regulation. New AI rules in the US, EU or elsewhere could raise costs or limit products.
- Currency risk for Indians. Your returns in rupees also depend on the USD/INR rate.
- Small float and volatility. If only a small share of the company is sold, early prices can swing sharply.
The SpaceX lesson
SpaceX listed on Nasdaq on 12 June 2026 at $135 a share. It closed its first day about 19% higher at $161, then fell below its IPO price within about a month. A hot first day does not guarantee gains. Many investors prefer to wait for the first earnings report or the end of the lock-up period, when insiders can sell.
